So what happened at TB Joshua's church?

First of all my condolences to all the families that lost family members in the building collapse.

But like the rest of the world, I would like to ask what happened there?

Just what happened there whilst people were praying?

Is there any truth in the claims of a plane crashing into the building? Or is the most likely explanation the collapse of the building due to unauthorized building alterations?

So let us look at what happened and what is the impact.

On a material level the building collapsed, it is a fact. Apparently it was the multi-story hostel that collapsed. This can be due to structural weakening (plane crash of unauthorized extensions to the building or inferior materials used by the builder)

On a spiritual level this is fuzzy/confusing. Why would God allow this? Why did at least 67 people die when they went to worship Him? (Worship God, not TB Joshua). This is something we will not know, not now...

On a financial level TB Joshua stand to loose millions, if not his whole ministry if it is found that he was negligent. But then, whose ministry is this, Joshua's or God's?.

On a human level is is a tragedy, people hurt and killed! What about their families, their children, their spouses?

But we come back to the big question, why is TB Joshua not forthcoming with answers and allowing rescue services into the church complex? Does he have something to hide? Is he a great Man of God... or a man of a great God? Only time will tell, maybe not, but whatever it is, TB Joshua will one day have to account for this.

Update 18/09/2014: And the saga continues, South Africa dispatched a rescue team to Nigeria to determine exactly what happened there and how many South Africans are involved as the total body count this morning is at 70.

Every day you are beaten

I came across this post from Bryan Ward this morning: Every day you are beaten :  Beaten by the leaky sink you keep avoiding. Beaten by the applesauce on the wall you keep not scrubbing off. Beaten by the dent in the drywall you keep putting off fixing. You long to conquer mountains, yet every day you are beaten by molehills. All these little problems… they should be so easily solved. Yet they go on defeating you, day after day, until at last you conclude that you are not a capable man: If you are this easily defeated, “surely” you do not have what it takes to win the bigger fights: to become your fittest self, to create a business empire, to create works of art that will outlast you. Hell, you can’t even fix a leaky sink: might as well f*** off and go watch TV. But you’ve misdiagnosed the problem entirely. … One summer day when I went into the workshop, I saw that the plastic gas cans by the tractor were bulging like balloons. I had left the vents closed, and the hea...

Death and Dying

When I die… When I die when my coffin is being taken out you must never think i am missing this world don’t shed any tears don’t lament or feel sorry i’m not falling into a monster’s abyss when you see my corpse is being carried don’t cry for my leaving i’m not leaving i’m arriving at eternal love when you leave me in the grave don’t say goodbye remember a grave is only a curtain for the paradise behind you’ll only see me descending into a grave now watch me rise how can there be an end when the sun sets or the moon goes down it looks like the end it seems like a sunset but in reality it is a dawn when the grave locks you up that is when your soul is freed have you ever seen a seed fallen to earth not rise with a new life why should you doubt the rise of a seed named human have you ever seen a bucket lowered into a well coming back empty why lament for a soul when it can come back like Joseph from the well when for the last time y...

Life's values .... or Character

I practice Sonhahm Taekwondo. One of the goals of the ATA is to instill certain life skills in the students, and in so doing build their character. At the beginning of each class or event we recite a declaration or oath. To me, the declarations we make, is also about how we should conduct ourselves as people in everyday life. I have spent a long time in the Defense Force and as a young officer we were taught the skills of Courtesy, Loyalty and Respect. I just wish that we can teach these same skills to the public at large. I am seeing and experiencing the lack of courtesy, loyalty, respect, integrity and self-control that the people have around me. People of a non-profit group being outright rude, children being rude to their parents, senior (in rank but junior in age) people being rude to juniors (in rank but senior in age). What happened to common decency, courtesy, and respect? We do not have self-control, and we do not teach our children self-control and even th...
